Pebble Beach at Bean Hollow State Beach

Pebble Beach at Bean Hollow State Beach - This is not a hike but a stroll on a very unusual beach. It is located about 17 miles south of Half Moon Bay. There is a large sign by the parking area. It is a little north of the larger Bean Hollow State Beach.

This is a small beach and has multi-colored, weathered sandstone, much of it with tafoni (small honeycomb-like pits). Its name comes from the colorful pebbles on the beach – washed up from an offshore gravel bed dating from the Pleistocene era. The beach is covered with these pebbles and much of the pitted rock is filled with them.
